Community Spotlight: Cameron Family YMCA

We are excited to spotlight a special member of our community this month! The Cameron Family YMCA opened its doors in 2003 and has offered recreational and skill-based programs for the whole family ever since. They teach life-long skills and are committed to helping all people reach their fullest potential through the development of spirit, mind and body.

Their presence in Santee dates back to 1983 when the YMCA opened a gymnastics and dance center which evolved into a full functioning YMCA. This was made possible through a partnership with the City of Santee and a generous donation from the Cameron Family.

The Cameron Family YMCA offers a variety of services to the community. Their fitness center is open to children ages 7 and up and they host fun events like “Slime Workshops”, “Flick and Floats” (movies at the pool), and even Dinosaur Family Night featuring our very own, world-famous dinosaur dentist, Dr. Buzz! Swimming, gymnastics, dance, camps, and senior programs are among all the services this organization has to offer.

Memberships provide many benefits, however, it is not required for most programs. Some members of the community may even be eligible to receive scholarships. As a charitable, non-profit public benefit organization, they do not turn people away for an inability to pay.
